Leadership in Action

Leadership in Action Logo

Leadership in Action at Lake Norman Charter is a K–12 commitment that begins with our youngest Knights and continues through graduation. Guided by seven core leadership traits aligned with the Knight Standard, students develop the skills, character, and confidence to lead with integrity, collaboration, and purpose both inside and outside the classroom.

LiA Traits

LiA at LNC High School

In high school, the Leadership in Action™ (LiA) program helps students develop seven core leadership skills, including empathy, integrity, problem-solving, and communication. Students complete 4–5 activities per year during Knight Time, guided by their LiA Advisor, with opportunities for discussion, reflection, and feedback. While grades do not affect GPA, successful completion is required for graduation. The program is designed to provide meaningful leadership development while fitting seamlessly into the school schedule.

LiA at LNC Elementary School

In elementary school, students begin developing the seven core Leadership in Action™ skills using child-friendly language and age-appropriate activities. From kindergarten through fourth grade, students learn to set goals, make plans, work as a team, listen to others, and balance their actions and choices. These foundational lessons are reinforced daily in the classroom, preparing students for continued leadership growth in middle and high school—without the pressure of grades.

LiA at LNC Middle School

In middle school, students in grades 5–8 engage in weekly lessons, discussions, and activities that explore the seven pillars of Leadership in Action™. Students transition from the age-appropriate leadership language used in elementary school to the terminology used in middle and high school, building a strong foundation for future growth. Through projects, service activities, and reflections, students practice and reinforce these leadership skills, compiling a digital portfolio to use as a resource when moving into the high school program. Participation and understanding are assessed by teachers and contribute to project grades, helping students develop both leadership and accountability as they progress through middle school.
