Welcome to LNC Middle School
Message from the Principal
It is an honor and privilege to continue to serve as Lake Norman Charter Middle School’s Principal. We continue to use feedback from the student, staff and community surveys to drive our initiatives and recenter our “why.” We have put an emphasis on creating a culture that has a true school/home life balance, where students have an opportunity to experience a rigorous curriculum while also participating in numerous clubs and sports. Our goal at the middle school is to provide students with an environment that expands their minds, cultivates friendships and fosters a tradition of service.
If we work together to implement supports guided by student needs, make decisions grounded in what is best for kids and pause to celebrate student and staff successes, we will reach a high level of academic achievement and excellence unsurpassed in the community.

Middle School Overview
Middle school students experience a well-rounded academic program that includes daily instruction in the four core subjects—language arts, math, science, and social studies—along with a wide range of elective courses. These electives provide rich opportunities in cultural, performing, and visual arts. Physical well-being is also central to the middle school experience, supported by daily activity time and physical education and health classes at each grade level.
Technology is fully integrated into learning through our 1:World program, which provides every student with a personal device. Smart Boards in every classroom and dedicated keyboarding and computer courses ensure our students are prepared to thrive in a fast-paced, technology-driven world.
Educational Philosophy for Math Placement
Every effort is made to ensure that each student is placed according to his or her math readiness and skill development. The administrators and math faculty of LNC have developed a math curriculum that emphasizes mathematical application and understanding beyond rote memorization of concepts. Our experience has shown that our math students are very well prepared for the demands of high school math courses because their ability to reason mathematically has been strengthened and extended.
Even with careful consideration and sound diagnostics, it is difficult to predict the readiness of all students for algebraic thinking. Students must have developed their ability to think abstractly, not only linguistically but also numerically. This is a cognitive skill that is dependent on developmental maturity. There is a readiness for algebra that cannot be forced. Simply put, students must be ready. We will not set a student up for failure. Likewise, we will not hold a student back who has a readiness for these math courses.
