Week of March 21

3/22/22:  LNC 15 - Charlotte Country Day 0 
Quinn Clark struck out ten batters in route to the complete game shutout. She also hit a double and scored two runs. Joanna Bernard helped to keep the shut out in the last inning by catching a line drive that looked destined to be a base hit. Abby Courtney hit a triple to drive in three runs and also scored three runs herself. Joanna Bernard, Ava Boucher, Mary Grace Brown, Caralyn Cavicchia, Morgan Gadd, Callie Genece, Madison Gilliam, Hayden Krombolz, Sarah Negrete, Kendall Ruffolo and Silvy Schild all contributed with a hit, getting on base, or scoring a run. Grace Hamlin and Claire Wilson displayed great sportsmanship. Everyone got playing time with Bella Delorenzo and Kourtney Shamwell getting some valuable experience in the team win. 

3/24/22:  LNC 13 - Cannon 1
Owen Kuhn and Dylan Wignot combined to throw a no hitter. Palmer Hayes had a big day with 2 hits, 1 walk, 1 RBI and scoring 1 run. Andrew Matthews scored 3 runs for the Knights.

3/23/22:  LNC 1 - Cannon 0
Caroline Mercuri scored the winning goal in the first half with a quick assist from Katelyn Foskey. Alena Dudan and Makenzie Bunting defended the goal during the game while not letting their opponent score a single point. The team couldn’t have won without Katie Robin’s amazing sense of direction for the ball, London Stafford’s on-field communication and Reece Long’s offensive skills. The girls soccer team hasn’t had a single goal scored against them and they’ve won every game so far! 

3/22/22:  LNC 3 - Country Day 0
The winning goals were made by Reece Long and Alena Dudan in the first half and Alena Dudan in the second half with Isabella T and Reece Long assisting them. The Lady Knights defended the goal against every single shot yesterday with the help of Praaisha Mehta’s amazing ball control, Avery Newsome's tough playing, Tori Painter's constant contact with the ball, Pranati Kakani’s growing skills and Daianah Raczui’s defense. The girls soccer team has not yet had a single goal scored against them! 

3/25/22:  LNC 11 - St. Marks 7
Preston Graham dominated on offense and Drew Weber on defense and the Knights played awesome!

3/23/22:   LNC 9 - Cannon School 10
The Knights fought a great game but fell short on a shot on goal that hit the pipes with 12 seconds left that would have tied the game!  Led by Preston Graham on offense with goals and Stevie Parker at faceoff.  

3/22/22:   LNC 2 - Charlotte Country Day 12
Hudson Webb led the Knights with ground balls and Tristan English with assists

The boys had a tough loss as Cannon took the lead 5-1 after singles competition. At No. 1 singles, Austin Cunningham made an impressive comeback after being down 1-4. He went on to win his match 8-5 and improved his personal singles record to 6-1. 

LNC won two of three points in doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Ethan York and Aaron Wang were down 1-5. They fought back to tie up the match 8-8. Although they played hard, they lost the tie breaker 4-7. At No. 1 doubles, Austin and Rohan Manargudi won their doubles match 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Anish Yadla and Neil Banahatti had an awesome 8-4 win. 

In exhibition play, Ashrith Kattika easily beat his opponent 8-2. LNC ultimately lost the match 3-6.

3/24/22:  LNC 17 - Pine Lake Prep 1
Andrew Webster led the Knights with 4 goals. Jack Dalton had 1 goal and 10 assists on the nights. Quincy McKay and Noah McGovern both had 3 saves on net. 

3/21/22:  LNC 20 - Mooresville 2
Jack Dalton led the Knights with 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists) on the night.  

3/25/22:  LNC 3 - Northwest Cabarrus 1 
The Lady Knights scored their first goal within the 3rd minute with the goal by Haven Stanley (Sr.) assisted by Eliza Rich (Sr.).  Kayla Patel (Jr.) was able to score the second goal of the game in the 14th minute with an assist from Stanley. The rest of the half remained scoreless for both teams. 

The Lady Knights struggled to gain momentum in the 2nd half, but Patel was able to score her second goal of the night with an assist from Stanley in the 81st minute. Northwest Cabarrus responded with one goal themselves in the last 2 minutes of the game. 

3/22/22:  LNC 10 - South Rowan 0 
In the first 5 minutes of the game, Rylie Cook (Jr.) scored the first goal with an assist from Haven Stanley (Sr.). Eliza Rich (Sr.) followed that up with another goal in the 10th minute assisted by Kate Robinson (Fr.). In the 13th minute, Stanley scored with an assist from Annie Poteat (Sr.), giving the Lady Knights a 3-0 lead. The next two goals were scored by Rich in the 16th and 23rd minute, assisted by Peyton Lally (Sr.), and Stanley. One minute later, Rich was able to assist Stanley in her 2nd goal of the night. In the 31st minute, Annie Poteat (Sr.) gained her first goal of the season which was assisted by Stanley. In the 33rd minute, Reese Robinson (Sr.) was able to score off of Stanley’s corner. In the last 2 minutes of the half, Isabella Stafford scored her first goals of the season, which were assisted by Asha Thamodharan (So.) and Alex Bach (Fr.). The game ended with a mercy rule by halftime. 

3/21/22:  LNC  2 - North Davidson 1
The Lady Knights started off the first half strong with a goal in the 13th minute scored by Rylie Cook (Jr.) from a cross made by Kayla Patel (Jr.). Shortly after, North Davidson responded with a goal of their own. The rest of the half remained tied. The Lady Knights struggled to gain momentum in the second half. It was not until the 68th minute that Peyton Conder (So.) was able to score from a pass from Haven Stanley (Sr.). The Lady Knights were able to hold off North Davidson for the rest of the game. 

3/25/22:  LNC 13 - South Iredell 12 in sudden-death overtime 
In midfield, junior Meredith Bordeaux controlled an impressive 6 draws while fielding 5 ground balls and pitching in one goal!
On attack, senior Morgan Thomas put up 3 points for the Lady Knights, assisting 2 goals and taking one for herself. Freshman Ava Purser was a standout player as well; she not only moved up from attack to play some midfield for the team but also pitched in 2 goals, controlled 1 draw, and fielded one ground ball! 

On the defensive end, senior rookie Georgia Chapman caused a big turnover for the Lady Knights to help them regain momentum for the game along with fielding 2 ground balls while playing consistent and aggressive defense all game! Alongside Chapman, sophomore defender Jordan Cornellier stepped up to also play some midfield for the night, fielding a total of 6 ground balls and causing 2 big turnovers!

MVPs of the game were seniors Victoria Saine and co-captain Bryn Shepler, along with junior co-captain Gaby Bernardo! Saine is a rookie defender who has shown consistent improvement that has built up on every game she plays, earning her not only a spot as a player in the starting lineup but also a driven hustle as seen in her 3 ground balls at this game! Shepler led the charge against the Vikings and was a catalyst for momentum as she contributed 11 crucial points to the Lady Knights at the game, (7 goals and 4 assists) along with switching off of her typical attacking position to play midfield, where she controlled 4 draws and fielded 3 ground balls! Bernardo has undergone some minor leg injuries that caused her to switch halfway through the game from her typical defensive midfield position to play low attack. However, with her time in both positions, she put up a total of 5 goals for the Lady Knights, controlled 2 draws, fielded 7 ground balls, and caused 3 turnovers! 

The team came together and showed how much chemistry can contribute to how a team plays. The Lady Knights finished the game playing as a unit and it was reflected in how every player went in to hustle and try new things with the support of their coaches and teammates! Congratulations to the LNC varsity women’s lacrosse team on this big win, and good luck to them as they continue on with their season!

3/24/22:  LNC 17 - Pine Lake Prep 9
Midfielder and senior Megan Wozniak pitched in a goal for the Lady Knights along with fielding 2 ground balls and causing 1 turnover! Junior midfielder and co-captain Gaby Bernardo put up 2 goals for the team along with controlling 5 draws, causing 2 turnovers, and fielding a total of 7 ground balls for the Lady Knights! 

Standout attacker and senior co-captain Bryn Shepler had an impressive 8 point game on the night, scoring 6 total goals and assisting 2 more! Other standout offensive players include senior attacker Morgan Thomas who put up 3 goals for the Knights, freshman Ava Purser who pitched in 1 goal and fielded 4 ground balls, and freshman Elli Demeo had an assist on the night along with 2 ground balls!
On defense, rookie freshman Olivia Zvanut had a great game, causing a big turnover for the team while fielding 3 ground balls to help in transition! Returning defenders senior Peyton Graham and sophomore Jordan Cornellier made some noise, causing 1 turnover each and both fielding 2 ground balls! 

The MVPs of the game were freshman rookies Sophie Lonergan and Alexsis Roop, along with standout junior midfielder Meredith Bordeaux. Lonergan and Roop have shown significant improvement over the course of games, and today they played aggressively, hustled hard, and made significant impacts on attack for the Lady Knights! Bordeaux had a great game for the Lady Knights, putting up 4 goals and pitching in 1 assist, along with fielding 2 ground balls and controlling 4 draws!

The LNC Lady Knights played hard at their home game and we can see improvement from every player on the field. 

3/22/22:  LNC 9 - Hough 23
In a hard-fought game, the Lady Knights played hard and persevered through adversity to push through the game as a team. 
Junior midfielders Meredith Bordeaux and co-captain Gaby Bernardo both controlled 2 draws against the Huskies with Bernardo also fielding 4 ground balls and pitching in 1 goal. Standout midfielder and senior co-captain Mary Sorvillo put up an impressive 8 of the goals for the Lady Knights in the game along with fielding 3 ground balls and causing 2 big turnovers! 

On defense, sophomore Jordan Cornellier caused a big turnover as well and fielded 2 ground balls to keep the Lady Knights in possession, along with sophomore goalie Aubrey Hamm who had an impressive 50% shot percentage in her time in goal! 
On attack, senior co-captain Bryn Shepler fought for an assist and fielded 2 ground balls for the team for the night. 

The men continued their winning ways with their lowest 9 hole total in three years, 145, and won all four matches of the season thus far.  Despite the low score, they only beat a tenacious Northwest Cabarrus team by 4 shots in a South Piedmont 3A match held at The Warrior Golf Course.  The team was led by junior Brady Rowland with a 3rd place, even par, 35.  He was backed up by seniors Ben Bailey and Will Dalton with 36.  The fourth counting team score was by junior Garson Long with a 38.
